Beneath Western Skies: SiarScéal Anthology 2020

SiarScéal Anthology 2020 reflects the work of the SiarScéal Festival and its attendees over the last three years and includes writing, photographs and illustrations.

The SiarScéal Festival is a historical, literary and bilingual festival, hosted annually in County Roscommon and inspired by the culture and heritage of Roscommon's river basins.

The Festival is built around the Hanna Greally International Literary Awards for both adults and children. A very important part of the preparation for each annual festival weekend is the series of workshops provided for children in their participating schools and clubs. Examples of the poetry and pictures produced as a result of these workshops are included in a dedicated Children’s and Young People's Section in this anthology.

The Adults' Section includes both poems by entrants for the Hanna Greally Awards and photographs from a collaborative project between SiarScéal Festival and photographers from County Sligo.

A special feature is a full section of work by adults and children on the theme of Reflections on Climate Change.

Although rooted in County Roscommon and the West of Ireland, the SiarScéal Festival attracts entrants and attendees from across Ireland and beyond and this anthology demonstrates the diversity of the works produced. The result, I hope you will agree, is a book that is a delight for the eye and for the mind.
